Dora Azcanio

When she arrived from Mexico 12 years ago, Dora Azcanio had little more than the clothes she was wearing and the dream of owning her own business.  To make ends meet, she started selling Avon products out of her home.  Dora proved to be a natural saleswoman, and she quickly created a large network and a steady stream of clientele.  However, she needed capital to build her inventory to keep up with the demand. 

Dora already knew that borrowing from a loan shark was not an option--she had previously taken out a loan from a prestamista, and the repayment of the loan had placed a tremendous financial burden on her.  This time, she turned directly to ACCION, where she has received a series of loans to help support her growing business.  Today, Dora has high hopes for her business.  "I hope to one day open up a little store, but for now, I am taking everything one step at a time."
