Invest in Local Communities

As seen in New York magazine's "Eighteen Ways to Blow Your Tax Return"

Without a credit history many immigrant, minority and low-income entrepreneurs struggle to keep their doors open.  ACCION provides hard-working entrepreneurs shut out of the financial system with the opportunity to build a business that provides for their families.

Worldwide and at home in New York City, small loans have the power to change lives.  Your $600 donation will help provide a struggling small business owner with his or her first formal loan, empowering the recipient with the financial tools needed to build a business, provide for a family and incite positive community change.

Make a difference in New York City

The New York City Commission for Economic Opportunity has cited microfinance as a viable poverty alleviating strategy in New York City.  Your donation will help:

  • Create employment: Each loan ACCION provides creates or maintains over two jobs in predominantly low-income and minority communities.  Last year alone, ACCION borrowers contributed over 2,600 jobs in the metropolitan region.
  • Increase local incomes: 55 percent of ACCION's borrowers report increased take-home pay from their businesses, allowing then to save for education, child-care and other essential family expenses.
  • Fight predatory lending: Access to formal credit protects minorities and immigrants, those most susceptible to unfair lending practices, from becoming victims of predatory and sub-prime lending practices.
